The Heart of Our Organization

Our team is made up of passionate and experienced professionals who are dedicated to moving our non-profit organization forward. We are grateful for their unique skills and unwavering commitment to our mission.

Reggie Barnes, founder of RealTime Hope, is a distinguished figure whose roots trace back to Selma, North Carolina. Raised by his mother, Carolyn, and grandmother, Cora, Reggie's early life was steeped in community and perseverance. A standout athlete, he shone as a basketball player at Smithfield-Selma High School from 1982 to 1985, earning accolades such as the Team Most Valuable Player three times and the 1985 CAP-8 Conference Player of the Year, among others. His prowess on the court led him to be the first from his high school to play in the North Carolina Coaches Association East/West All-Star Game.

Choosing to stay close to home for college, Reggie attended the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where he was a four-year letterman for the 49ers. His college career was marked by significant achievements including playing in the NCAA Basketball Tournament in 1988 following a Sun Belt Conference Championship win. He graduated in 3 ½ years with a degree in Human Services/Psychology and a minor in African American Studies, becoming the first in his family to earn a college degree—a milestone that filled his family with immense pride.

Post-college, Reggie worked in the mental health profession before venturing into entrepreneurship where he found considerable success, owning three private businesses. However, his most fulfilling work has come through his nonprofit, RealTime Hope, which has contributed significantly to educational scholarships and international mission projects. Always keen to give back to his community, Reggie has been involved in offering free basketball clinics and community fun days in his local area.

Mr. Barnes continues to impact his community positively, driven by his motto, “If you help enough people get what they want, by default you will always get what you want.” Reggie's life and work exemplify his commitment to service and community engagement, making him a true leader in both his personal and professional endeavors.
